Senior High Youth Group
[ back to directory of organizations ]
Our mission is to develop a community where high school students can interact on a spiritual and social level. The youth group is designed to help prepare the young people of OLBS for future growth within our parish and society.
Social, spiritual, service and fun events are held monthly. Any parish youth in grades 9 -12 are welcome to join all activities. The youth group is involved with assisting other organizations within the parish including: Holy Name Easter Egg Hunt, and sorting and arranging the parish envelopes. The youth group also offers outside social activities such as Youth Group Night at the Sabres, Teen Rock 'n Bowl, Lazertron, Moonlight Mazes, and our world famous Video Scavenger Hunt.
Our group has taken on the task of organizing our annual parish Holy Thursday trip to "7 Churches". Our parish family has responded well to this event and we grow every year. Our teens have also taken on the responsibility of performing "The Faces Around the Cross" each year on a Friday for the Stations of the Cross. We also enjoy our retreats at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora and have a blast at the Diocesan Youth Convention.
The OLBS youth group has served numerous times at St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, worked extensively with Ann Marie Zon and the Nicaraguan Mission, and enjoys collecting donations for Brother's of Mercy Nursing Home from the parish and delivering around Christmas while playing Bingo with the residents. Our claim to fame is the Ice Cream booth at the parish lawn fete and our Krispy Kreme donut sales.
Future plans are always developed by the youth / adult planning team. Our planning team consists of teens in the 11th and 12th grades that actively participate in our events. The planning team meets in July to plan the following year's events.
Annually, each May, the students of the 8th grade graduating class, as well as any other new high school teens who would like to check us out, are invited to a Welcoming Party/Dance to introduce them to the group members.
